Images using the filter DIY: Freedom Story, which I created for Instagram. 2021.

I speculate about what a claim for “freedom” would do in IG users’ experience by bringing to mind the installation “Do it yourself: Freedom Territory” (1968) by Antonio Dias. Dias wrote about his installation: “a basic open structure, that only works from the moment someone uses the space declared free to put on an action(…) It is important that the person adopts a complete unconditioned position before penetrating the territory-structure.” I visually replicate the same open structure in the filter that Dias created with a grid dividing the space into 24 open squares.
